Fourteen typographic broadsides, Spring 2017

In Spring 2017 each student selected a quote by an important typographer or designer. Each quote was handset and printed in the Stanza 153 Press shop at San Francisco State University. Special thanks to Prof. Mario Laplante for making the types in the printmaking room of the Art Department available to our design students. The quotes were printed on either Rives BFK or Stonehenge paper, approximately 12 x 18. Go to high res images of the broadsides.

A Specimen Book of Type Faces from Stanza 153 Press

You are invited to join us on Friday, May 20, 2016, from 1 to 4 PM, as we celebrate the birth of our first publication: A Specimen Book of Type Faces from Stanza 153 Press.

The book was handset and printed on a Challenge 15MP Proof Press by the students of DAI 226 Modern Letterpress Printing, Spring 2016, a class taught by Pino Trogu, instructor in the Design and Industry Department at San Francisco State University. It includes a selection of type faces from the printing shop with accompanying quotes from writers and artists that illustrate each type face in use. In addition, each student printed a personal page using a variety of large-size wooden letters and other printing elements.

The shop is located in Room 153, on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building on the campus of San Francisco State University. The fully accessible entrance, near Tapia Drive., is directly across from the Humanities Building.

Come tour the shop and meet the typographers, compositors and printers for an afternoon of letterforms, words, and conversation. Refreshments will be served.
